Gender Inclusion and Women’s Safety
Amanprit served as the lead for the Women, Girls and Gender Diversity Safety in Public Spaces programme during its final year, with Publica, a leading urban design and public realm practice. The programme developed a gender-inclusive design handbook that tested its toolkit principles across ten live public realm projects across London, in partnership with London Legacy Development Corporation, Places for London, Transport for London, and Mayor Design Advocates.
The initiative sparked various efforts across sectors such as policing, Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), 24-hour city planning, culture, transport, youth, and sport. It highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration beyond the built environment, engaging over 300 stakeholders.
Amanprit launched the handbook and delivered a series of training workshops with over 200 officers from across the GLA group and London boroughs. These efforts aimed to empower those involved in shaping urban spaces to address gender inequality and design environments where women, girls and gender diverse individuals feel safe, represented and valued. The research embedded gender inclusion and safety in the London Plan.
